The term luxury treatment center is broad and can have different meanings to different people. In general, luxury treatment centers or luxury rehab centers feature resort-like amenities. Holistic treatment programs are available, and these centers may cater to wealthy or high-profile clients.

Luxury treatment centers can make someone feel more comfortable while receiving treatment, but it’s not a necessity. Any treatment center using evidence-based, individualized care plans will be well-suited to providing addiction treatment services.

Understanding Addiction Treatment

According to the Mental Health Services Administration, addiction to drugs or alcohol is a chronic disease. When someone has an addiction to substances, it affects every area of their lives. These impacts extend to their mental and physical health, relationships, finances, and careers.

When someone uses addictive substances, including drugs or alcohol, it creates changes in the brain. These brain changes trigger a reward cycle. Once that happens, most people do require professional treatment.

There’s also the issue of substance dependence.

Dependence on drugs or alcohol indicates that you might experience withdrawal symptoms when you stop or reduce your usage.

Types of Treatment Programs

There are some general treatment programs, each with its own considerations.

Detoxification

For someone with physical dependence on drugs or alcohol, the first treatment step is often medically managed withdrawal.

You go through detoxification or detox with help from a medical team during this time. During detox, your body clears the substances you use. Detoxing alone isn’t an addiction treatment. Rather it prepares you to continue onto the next part of your treatment plan.

Withdrawal from some substances can be dangerous or deadly, so medication-assisted treatment and medical interventions can be important.

Short-Term Residential

After detoxing for many people, the next step is a short-term residential treatment center. Short-term residential treatment options can last up to around 90 days. During short-term residential rehab, you live onsite. You receive comprehensive counseling, behavioral therapy, and psychological care, and many programs use a version of a 12-step approach.

Long Term Residential

For more difficult situations, there are long-term residential rehab centers. These are in non-hospital settings, and the most common long-term residential care is a therapeutic community. In a therapeutic community, you live with other people as you all work on integrating back into society without drugs or alcohol. As you begin the recovery process, you participate in cognitive-behavioral therapy and receive treatment for co-occurring mental health issues.

Intensive Outpatient Program

Outpatient rehab can be high- or low-intensity. A high-intensity outpatient program might include Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). These programs have similarities to inpatient rehab, but you can return home at the end of the treatment day. On the other end of the spectrum, some outpatient programs are just drug education or might include weekly counseling.

Individual Therapy

Individualized drug counseling and behavioral therapy can be part of a more intensive drug treatment program, or it could be something you do separately. Individual therapy is a way to stop alcohol or drug use and improve relationships and other areas of functionality.

Group Counseling

Group counseling is one of the areas where you might spend most of your time if you’re in rehab, whether inpatient or outpatient.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

You can receive an individualized treatment plan for co-occurring disorders in a dual diagnosis treatment program. For example, if someone has a substance use disorder like alcohol addiction or a depressive disorder, for the best chances of long-term recovery, both should be treated at the same time.

How Much Does Rehab Cost?

Unfortunately, there is a misconception that cost is a barrier to receiving addiction treatment. The reality is that while rehab, especially inpatient programs, can be expensive, untreated addiction costs are much more significant. The costs quickly add up as addiction spirals from legal and financial troubles to medical care.

A typical inpatient rehab program can cost several thousands of dollars a month, but that doesn’t tell the full story.

Many rehab centers first will accept insurance. Insurance can cover some or all of the costs of treatment. Rehab centers also often have payment plans and financial assistance available.

Cost should never be a barrier to receiving addiction treatment.

How Much Do Luxury Treatment Centers Cost?

The cost of luxury drug recovery centers can vary significantly. While the pre-insurance cost of inpatient rehab at a standard facility can range from $5,000-to $20,000 a month, the average can be $30,000 to upwards of $100,000 a month for a luxury treatment center. However, luxury treatment centers often do not accept health insurance.

Along with amenities factoring into the cost, the location is also relevant. For example, a rehabilitation center in California might be significantly more expensive than luxury rehab centers in lower-cost states.

Why Are Luxury Treatment Centers So Expensive?

Certain things make luxury treatment centers more expensive.

These treatment centers are much more like going to a resort than traditional addiction centers. The facility may offer private rooms or your own bathroom. The accommodations are usually sprawling and in scenically beautiful locations.

When you attend a luxury rehab center, you might have access to massage therapy, equine therapy, art therapy, music therapy, etc. There are often cleaning services and an onsite private chef preparing nutritious, gourmet meals, and you’re probably going to get more one-on-one treatment.

Personal trainers might be available at a luxury rehab program as well. These are all considered complementary therapies and treatment methods as you work toward recovery from addiction.

Most luxury rehab centers use a holistic approach to the treatment process, and these facilities also promise the utmost privacy, which high-profile people can prefer.

Are Luxury Rehab Centers Worth the Cost?

If you can afford a luxury rehab center, that might be something you want to explore.

Don’t let that deter you from looking at less expensive options if you can’t. A less expensive substance abuse treatment program isn’t going to automatically provide a lower quality of care.

Ultimately, while a luxury rehab center might have great amenities, what matters most is that you receive treatment based on evidence and research that helps you begin your life in recovery.

Even the most bare-bones addiction treatment program can provide wonderfully individualized and patient-centric care for drug or alcohol abuse.

The background and credentials of providers and the approach to treatment plans are what matter most when treating addiction. Amenities can be nice and enjoyable but aren’t necessary to effectively treat substance use disorders or mental health conditions.

Paying for Rehab in Southern California

Inpatient rehab will be more expensive than outpatient treatment and is the best option for many people. If you have a longer-term or more severe addiction or co-occurring mental health disorders, you should strongly consider inpatient treatment at a residential addiction treatment center.
