Gorski Relapse Prevention
Relapse Prevention Groups
Our inpatient rehab program includes relapse prevention groups as part of the curriculum. With your personal recovery goals in mind, our counselors will help design a Relapse Prevention Plan that fits in with your life situation.
The goal of our programs is not only to help clients establish a healthy lifestyle in recovery but to assist in identifying and addressing triggers that can cause clients to relapse. Dr. Terence Gorski, who is one of the leading authorities on recovery and relapse prevention, firmly believes that knowing triggers can help a person prevent a relapse from occurring. By utilizing Relapse Prevention therapy for each client, we can help them learn to identify their stage of recovery and establish a plan that can be used to identify and manage the relapse warning signs.
What is relapse prevention therapy?
The goal of Relapse Prevention therapy is to help a client learn how to identify and effectively manage the core personality and lifestyle problems that can lead to relapse once a stable recovery plan has been created. Counselors who specialize in relapse prevention encourage their patients to create a list of their historical issues, how each issue relates to their relapse, the consequences of not facing those issues, and how to change the personality and address those issues and avoid relapse. There are nine steps one must learn to recognize and stop the early symptoms of relapse, including:
- Stabilization
- Assessment
- Relapse education
- Warning sign identification
- Warning sign management
- Recovery planning
- Inventory training
- Family involvement
- Follow-up
Once a patient knows and understands the nine steps that can be used to prevent relapse, they may have the ability to prevent drug abuse relapses from occurring in the future.

Relapse Prevention Rehab
Relapse Prevention therapy aims to help a client learn how to identify and effectively manage the core personality and lifestyle issues that can lead to a relapse. Relapse Prevention groups at Covenant Hills focus on helping you understand the factors that contribute to the urge to use again. Every addiction is unique, so each person’s relapse prevention plan should differ.
The goal of our addiction treatment programs is not only to help clients establish a healthy lifestyle in recovery, but to assist in identifying and addressing triggers that can cause a client to relapse. By utilizing Gorski Relapse Prevention therapy for each client, we can help them learn to identify their stage of recovery and establish a plan that they can use to identify and manage the warning signs of relapse.
By encouraging patients to create a list of their relevant issues, how each relates to a possible relapse, considering the consequences of not facing those issues, and how to address them, clients are prepared to avoid relapse.
